comings and goings

comings

our new barbeque was hooked up saturday. now all we need is somewhere to put it so that we don't have to drag it between the garage and the back of the house everytime we want to use it.

goings

j's sister left saturday evening for afghanistan. she is on a 6-month rotation, providing fitness and leisure programs for the troops. or, possibly, working at the tim hortons.

comings

we got the saturn back. we picked it up sunday evening and dropped it off at canadian tire to get it safetied. as long as it doesn't cost too much. it will be nice to have two cars again.

goings

my brother left sunday. when i'm not sure because he didn't call me. he's gone for a year-ish in prague for work.

comings?

we looked at trees yesterday. we really want to tree-if-y our backyard. did you know that trees, delievered and planted, are expensive? also, in our house contract, there are trees that we are not allowed to plant. none of the ones we like are on the no-no list so we're okay.

goings

late last night, j sold the turbo kit. as soon as we know the saturn works, we (and when i say that, i really mean "j") will take the turbo off the mazda and zoom our way towards 87 octane and a fist full of cash.

(future) comings

a fist full of cash just might become a nice deck in the backyard. or an air conditioner. or a boring extra mortgage payment.

goings

we might have to kick rolo off the island for pooping in the closet. no joke, i went in to hang up some cothes and almost died from the smell. i did some detective work and found two poops in the back of the closet. not his fault, they were locked up saturday morning while the gas guys were over. what IS his fault is the brand new poop that was in there this morning. rolo, you are this close to being voted off the island. THIS close!

You can contact the city of Ottawa for free trees. They will come and drop it off to you for nothing. I'm not sure if you get to pick the type of tree though.

Do you know why the particular species aren't allowed? Wouldn't it be nice if Ottawa gives out native trees only? BBQ on a deck is basically paradise, it sounds excellent. Have fun pondering it all!

hey, thanks matt. we've registered for a tree though i'm guessing we'll have to wait until the fall to get it.

cu (aka. m), the two reasons i know for not allowing certain trees are that 1) some trees drink up too much water and damage foundations (like at our last house) and 2) elm trees are susceptible to dutch elm disease and there's something about that that's really bad.

i looked into the city trees and didn't find out much except that you can't pick what kind of tree. i'm guessing it'll probably be a maple or an oak. something that does well in canada otherwise why bother.

Trees ARE expensive! It is crazy, but so worth it. We are so happy to have some big trees in our backyard and can't imagine a place without any.

Wonder if the City plants it for you too? Probably not...

Sorry bout Rolo.. what is up with that? Our kitty had some issues in the basement when we first moved there, but he's since been behaved. We got him an extra litter box and that seemed to do the trick. He now separates his deeds into respective boxes. He's a bit of a material girl.

SK I love that about your cat! Eve rthought of traing him to use the toilet? He might like the flushability aspect, and the novelty of it would never wear off, I'm betting.

I wonder if the city is careful to use non-invasiv species, or if they just go disease resistant or whatever. Huh. Let us know what you get in the tree lottery, k?
